Art The Experience
Chef James Parker
by Greg Butauski
Chef Richard Alford CEC., CCE. instructor and mentor to many at the University of Akron won the Home Grown Saturday Morning Vegetable carving competition at Lock 3 Park in Akron.
It was a great event, we had 23 carvers from 4 different states and for the first time we had a professional and amateur division. Jon Kelley won the amateur event and really wowed the crowed with some really unique carvings.
We were very fortunate to have Chef James Parker, winner of the Food Network Challenge for Fruit and Vegetable Carving. He donated much of his time and then provided seminars for the carvers. I attended Chef James Seminar and was very pleased and overwhelmed with so much great information.
Thanks James!
The city of Akron expressed interest in holding the same event next year! I really enjoyed hosting this event for the city of Akron and I'm realizing how much I want to continue to create more vegetable carving venues for chef carvers. This is a fun and unique way to wow the crowd that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. So look out promotors, you will see more Fruited Arts from us!
